Sublime 2011 Campaign Wrap

Sublime made a return to the pre-semis this year after a hiatus in 2010. In a cracking game Sublime lost to Colony Pillage (eventual 2011 champions) on universe point following two consecutive defensive breaks to bring the game to 14-14.

Stand out players included the ever consistent handling combination of Tom Tullet and John Damiani but also the defensive efforts of Peter Eley and Kendall Thorn were senational in this game. Paul Whittock also played a blinder giving Colony headaches as a great receiver and throwing option.

It was a testament to the quality of the match that Tex had to make one of the plays of the game to score the final point making a great layout catch with the disc literally a centimetre above the ground.

A successful campaign came to a slightly disappointing end with a loss to an energetic and seemingly endless lines of still fit players in the Firestorm camp. Credit to Firestorm as Nationals is a battle of attrition and is the nature of the sport but hopefully this will be the last year of the flawed cusp pool draw.

Anyway we didn't make the semi's as we would have liked too ... but we came as close as possible and definately displayed better maturity and mental toughness in defending leads against strong surges from Heads of State and Fyshwick United and even getting back into games against I-Beam and Colony Pillage.

As a still relatively young team these are important steps for the future and great building blocks for 2012.

Bring on the Benny Haim awards night ....
